Dear Livejournal.

This week, I have (in no particular order):
Collected from about the house, crushed, bagged and taken in $22.35 worth of recycling.

Beaten Conan.

Read The Third Angel by Alice Hoffman, she of the perfect sentences. ("No, I told you a story. You can decide the rest")

Read The Painter of Battles by Aurturo Perez Reverte, he of the staggering imagery. (Oh, god. The cracks in the tower. So beautiful.)

Read Dust by matociquala, she of the genius.

Rewatched all of Criminal Minds, which is edging up on west wing as, IMO, the best written show. Ever. It has a lot of ground to cover, but it's getting there.

Created and scrapped four characters for a star wars RPG starting up sunday.

Walked or ran 75 miles.

Lifted 6 tons (in small pieces)

re-read SoS, in order, along with the annotations.

Written, and scrapped, three website designs for my aunt.

Built a Xen cluster for pay.

Cooked five loaves of bread (honey/oat, mostly)

Finally scoured the last of the burned chili off my big stock pot.

Made three gallons of vegetable broth.

Cooked 12 pounds of chicken (thighs and drumsticks) in a variety of sauces, attempting to determine which was better.

Made a variety of sauces, only two of which came out good enough to use more then once.

Hung out with heyfox on his pre-birthday outing to see Prince Caspian. (And slew a theater with a well timed quip)

Cleaned my kitchen four times.

Fixed an issue with my cable/cablemodem.

Slept a combined total of 26 hours.

Left to do:

Go to store to pick up final ingredients for potato salad for heyfox's birthday celebration today.

Make said potato salad.

Attend said celebration.

Get drunk.

Go to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at Standford tomorrow night.

Play the aforementioned Star Wars RPG on sunday.

Hopefully, sleep some.

Earlier, I posted a very, very short clip of me and a co-worker fighting with lightsabers.

This was shot, and SFX'd by another co-worker of mine. Who is starting to get really, really into it. And asked me if I knew any good books to recommend.

My response was "How the hell would *I* know anything?"

But, I *do* have at least two filmgeeks in my friends here...and they know more. So, I put this question forth: Know any good books for a starting wanna be flimgeek?

So, I've had my roomba for about two weeks now.

Some thoughts: I shed a rediculous amount.

The roomba works really surprisingly well.

I need to figure out new way to get speakers on the other side of the living room, and the roomba catches the cable and tries to eat it.

I still need to mop the kitchen and bathroom floors.

Finished AC night before last, and I claim it as the best new game I've played this year. And a close second for the past three years to Supreme Commander[1].

The ending is obviously a setup for a sequel, but I don't mind, because they've been talking about the fact that it's a franchise since I've been hearing about it, and the historical storyline did get wrapped up to a real conclusion.

I've complained about the annoying shortcomings in the game, but the little cutscenes for the investigation meetings are pretty wicked. Although, it would have been nice to have explained that, when you steal info? You can access it via the pause screen, and it does things like show where guards are, and where scholars hang out, etc, etc.

But, this little exchange between me and the manager of game stop about the game totally captures the feel.

Gamestop Employee: What's the best thing about Assassin's Creed anyhow?
Gamestop Manager: You get to Shank A Bitch.
Me: No, no, no.
GSM: ?
Me: Come-on. It's that you get to RUN UP A WALL, THEN Shank A Bitch. Duh.
Everyone: *laugh*

[1] And that's hard. They're SUCH different games. SC just has that extra bit of coolness in keeping being fun.

Awesome weekend, I went out to Maryland to visit my cousin hyuga for his birthday. Stayed with him and miraba, and their rats. Drank much, hung out with cool people, including monoploizing miraba's friends Tom and Barbara. Sorry again about that.

Saturday night, hyuga and I went trundling off to DC at about 9 PM, wandered around to see the various monuments, and talked about faith, and philosophy, and politics, and other random crap. It was much fun.

The monuments are interesting at night, because they're mostly empty, but compeletly lit up. And there are few enough people that it's quiet, and you can contemplate things, and have quiet conversations about stuff. hyuga mentioned that the Lincon and Jefferson memorials are awesome places to take a Significant Other.

I'd like to test that theory at some point.

On the way back, had an 8 hour layover in LA, was going to get together with wedgex and ardaniel, but they had been destroyed by their weekend in San Diego. LAX floor is surprisingly comfortable, but they need a 24 hour sandwhich place.

Notes: Next time, instead of leaving at the ass crack of dawn and landing in the early evening, leave late at night, and get in at the asscrack of dawn. Although, getting from SFO to the office is remarkably painless, which is really nice.

Science Fiction author Elizabeth Moon is doing a short series, unknown how many parts, on punctuation. How and when to use it, how to use it properly, and how not to use it.

It's easy to read, accessable, and not stupid and pedantic and ranty like eats, shoots, and leaves.

Also, she talks about stylistic methods. it's pretty awesome.

Commas are here.

Semi-Colons are here.

Apostrophes are here.

Hopefully she'll cover all of them, although dash and ellipsis seem to have been covered in the comments of the Semi-Colon essay.
