[Ganked from woap

Step 1: Put your iPod or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly. [EDIT: Stolen from unixronin tag the songs with the person who gets the line]
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.

1. I've never written a love song that didn't end in tears
2. The girl works at the store sweet jane sinclar [ardaniel]
3. Well, I'm about to get sick from watching my TV
4. late at night, when it's dark and cold, I reach out for someone to hold
5. Don't sell your soul for a pack of lies, don't sell your soul
6. Once you said, you'd stick 'til the end, I guess you lied, they called it suicide
7. Engel haben keine Schonzeit, traume sind nicht wasserfest
8. Are we the last living souls, are we the last living souls, are we the last living souls
9. Take a little care, when you put your lips on a long coldneck
10.  Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day [unixronin]
11. Plastic Flowers in her hair, don't they make a lovely pair
12. Styles and opinons change faster then the world for plastic punks seeking teenage pleasure

19. Don't call my name out your window when I'm leaving
20. Well I'm riding down this road, on this big old motorcycle

Ok, if nobody gets number 18, I'll cry, honest.
Also interesting.  In order to get these 20 songs, I had to skip 14 instrumentals.  I'd aay that's odd, but I'm not actually sure of the ratio between lyrical songs, and instrumentals. so hey..maybe it's not that odd.

2) "Jane," Barenaked Ladies
7) "Engel," Rammstein
17) "Everybody Knows," either Leonard Cohen, Concrete Blonde, or Don Henley

7 isn't rammstein. :)
And it's Mr. Cohen.

Several of those seem familiar, particularly #13. But I'm failing to put names to them. #13 continues "Some people can be bad", neh...? My brain keeps wanting to say Boston.

#10, of course, is Pink Floyd, Time, from Dark Side of the Moon.

You're right about the next line, but Boston, it's not.
unixronin From: unixronin Date: April 18th, 2006 11:51 am (UTC) (Link)
Upon further consideration, no, it's not Boston. But I know I know it. I just can't retrieve the name.

Ha! But now I know why my brain was saying Boston ... because the melody line is sort of similar in character. But it's not Boston, it's Dire Straits. "The things they do, the things they say ..." uh ... come on, brain, title .... Why Worry</b>

Hah! Very Good! And at only 8 am, no less.
unixronin From: unixronin Date: April 18th, 2006 12:08 pm (UTC) (Link)
And I think the reason for my temporary confusion is because there is, in fact, a Boston song to which those first couple of lines actually scan almost perfectly. I'll leave it as a puzzle for others to figure out which one. :)

Buh. No there isn't. I don't know where my brain is this morning. I seem to be suffering from spoon depletion. The song I'm thinking of is Heart, not Boston.

I'd tell you what 16 is, but neither I nor Depeche Mode want to spread any Blasphemous Rumours.

Out of curiosity, what did you think #7 was?
14, I'll take, only because it's also true. I was aiming for "Into The Void" , same artist, but it would seem that 'slipping away' actually has the same opening line. Probably sampled into 'Into The Void', actually.
